Insight

With Scotland-wide hubs, different working environments and staff roles – from technical and policy experts to ranger services – Scottish Natural Heritage is a diverse organisation. Pagoda was employed to review the organisation’s  internal communications and develop a strategy to enable SNH to be ‘smaller, smarter and more influential’.

Idea

A full review over six weeks included staff focus groups, a benchmarking exercise and analysis of existing communication channels. Identifying areas for improvement and strengths to build upon, we created a strategy that was simple to use and tailored to match limited resources.  Complemented by a phased implementation plan, our practical recommendations for change were designed to engage staff and promote two way communication and feedback.

Impact

A recent staff survey has indicated an increase year on year in the numbers of staff who “…feel well informed about what goes on”.  The client has told us “This increase is due to a combination of having a clear internal communications strategy…..as well as addressing our approach …. While there is still some way to go, it is hugely rewarding to see this evidence that the changes put in place are already making a significant difference for our organisation.”

Our audit team has strong experience of strategy development for public sector bodies.  Taking time to appreciate the needs of an organisation and its people allows us to create a strategy that is both thoughtful and effective.
