Insight

The Forth Road Bridge holds a significant position in Scotland’s national roads network and over the ten years in which we offered crisis support, it faced many challenges.  From the dehumidification of the cables and resurfacing work to the inevitable wind and weather, communications for the Bridge required a team on-hand 24/7.

Idea

With years of experience in crisis communications handling, our team provided the Bridge with on-call support for crisis and issues.  At the outset we created crisis plans and protocols and we worked seamlessly as an extension of the Bridge’s communications function.

Impact

Our support ensured good communications at moments of full Bridge closures due to wind, roadworks or accidents and other issues faced day to day.  We worked with stakeholder organisations to create integrated plans and responses while also managing the social media and online presence of the Bridge.  The ten year relationship demonstrated our professionalism and competency.

Knowing what to do in a crisis is a core skill in PR.  There is no substitute for experience and we have managed many major crises in our time.   Being prepared is as important as thinking on your feet and being team focused.  Our role with the Forth Road Bridge was a good example of all these.
