Auchmacoy’s First Resident Welcomes Fiona Kennedy at Official Opening

Singer, broadcaster and Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire, Fiona Kennedy OBE, has officially opened Auchmacoy Lodge, a new care unit in Ellon dedicated to providing the highest quality of care for older people.

The former Record Breakers presenter entertained residents, staff and guests by singing at the special commemorative event which also provided local people with an opportunity to tour the home and the new facility.  She was welcomed by Auchmacoy Lodge’s first resident Elsie Gall, better known as Bunty to family and friends, who presented Fiona with a bouquet of flowers.

Auchmacoy Lodge is the latest addition to Auchtercrag House Care Home, offering a selection of eight premium ensuite bedrooms in a cosy, homely environment. Other facilities include a spacious living and dining area, library area and hairdressing and beauty salon.

It replaces the Auchmacoy GP Unit which was relocated by Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership earlier this year. The premises were refurbished by Meallmore to expand its care home services on offer locally and importantly to retain staff.

Welcoming Fiona Kennedy, care home manager, Rae Paterson, said: “Everyone has been really looking forward to the opening. Music plays a big part in the care and lifestyle that we offer, and many of our residents thoroughly enjoy the benefits of music therapy. It is very fitting that Fiona has taken the time to sing for us today to mark this special occasion.”

During the event Fiona Kennedy met with residents staying across the care home and found out more about the events and activities that are on offer for everyone. She said:

“I am honoured to have been invited to perform and officially open Auchmacoy Lodge which is such a wonderful and happy home from home.”

“It is ever more important to provide first class care for our nearest and dearest and certainly the brilliant staff here do this so well and it’s been a privilege to meet and sing for the inspirational residents.”

Auchmacoy Lodge and Auchtercrag Care Home provides nursing, respite and palliative care for people over 65. Anyone interested in finding out more can contact Rae Paterson, Care Home Manager, on 01358 720 031 or visit www.meallmore.co.uk for more information.
