Sir Michael Hirst

Michael leads on providing strategic advice and counsel to a wide range of clients, primarily in the property and development sectors.
His work on the Falkirk Distillery project won a CIPR Gold Award in 2010 for Best Campaign under £10K and a Silver Award for Best Public Affairs campaign.
Until 1987 he was an MP for Strathkelvin and Bearsden. Prior to joining the company in 1998, he held a number of senior political appointments in Scotland which gave him close experience of government decision making. He was appointed Chairman of Pagoda in 2000.
He was knighted in 1992 for political and public service.
Michael has had a long standing interest in diabetes since his younger daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 many years ago. He was the first non-medical Chair of Diabetes UK from 2001-2006 and is currently President-Elect of IDF.
He is a former Member of the Court of Glasgow Caledonian University and holds a number of board appointments in NGOs and charities in Scotland.
