Edinburgh’s five star visitor attraction, Dynamic Earth is taking visitors on a journey into outer space this autumn, with the launch of a new ShowDome film and a selection of hands on activities and demonstrations.
From 8 October, ‘We are Stars’ will be making its debut in the awe-inspiring ShowDome. The 25 minute steampunk-themed film takes viewers on a dizzying journey through time from the Big Bang to the present day, connecting life on earth to the evolution of the universe. Narrated by Andy Serkis as a Victorian tour guide, ‘We are Stars’ explains our cosmic chemistry and scientific concepts using fun and whimsical mechanical devices. The 360-degree full dome projection is screened with 10.2 surround sound, providing a fully immersive, high impact cinematic experience, making the audience feel like they are floating amongst the stars.
For visitors who are inspired by space travel, and in honour of the European Space Agency’s first civilian British astronaut, Tim Peake embarking on his mission to the International Space Station in December, Dynamic Earth is involved in a UK-wide celebration of human flight. On Sunday 25 October, from 10am – 4pm, visitors can find out more about the forthcoming mission, and can take part in ‘Destination Space’ activities and see demonstrations to discover what it’s really like to be an astronaut.
Back on solid ground, Dynamic Earth will be welcoming researchers from the British Geological Survey on 18 October, for an exciting showcase of the diverse work they do. Visitors can find out more about volcanoes, tsunamis, marine science and much more with activities and displays for rock lovers of all ages. On Sunday 11 October, the attraction will also be celebrating International Year of Soils, with a number of family friendly activities to help visitors understand the vital life-giving resource that is the brown stuff under our feet. Plus, to coincide with Earth Science Week on 13-17 October, visitors can get hands on with minerals and gems, with special guests The Scottish Mineral and Lapidary Club.
During October, visitors to Dynamic Earth can upgrade their ticket to the all new ‘Annual Explorer Pass’ for free. The new Annual Explorer Pass includes free entry to Dynamic Earth for one year, exclusive invites to evening events, as well as discounts on birthday parties, in the cafe and gift shop.
Commenting on autumn programme, Eilidh Massie, marketing manager of Dynamic Earth said: “We can’t wait for our visitors to see ‘We are Stars’, it’s the most impressive film we’ve ever had in the ShowDome. Both adults and children will be amazed at the mesmerising visual effects. It’s definitely a must-see! On top of all the exciting activities we have planned for autumn, our new Annual Explorer Pass upgrade is an incredible offer, and is well worth snapping up while it lasts.’’
