Renfrewshire Council
Communication audits and reviews
Brief
Pagoda PR was commissioned to audit and review all communications activities and the resources allocated to these, across all services of Renfrewshire Council. The brief identified a number of objectives for the project including:
• Reducing outsourcing of communications work
• Promoting the corporate image and corporate standards of service
• Improving the quality of service to all departments
Results
The review and audit process took around two months. We prepared a report containing a number of wide-ranging recommendations including:
- Creating a centralized communications service – a “hub” – bringing in posts from other services as well as creating some new posts
- Within this central hub, setting up a publishing and new media team, to provide expert copywriting support across all platforms
We estimated that our recommendations would achieve signficant bankable and efficiency savings, by reducing outsourcing and ensuring that communications work is carried out by highly skilled communication professionals within a central team, rather than by services themselves.
Renfrewshire is mid way through implementing our recommendations and, according to Oliver Reid, Principal Officer Corporate Policy & Communications, “even at this early stage [we] are seeing significant improvements in our approach and performance.”
