General Election 2010: The Scottish Dimension

Gordon Brown has this morning called the General Election, dissolving Parliament to start the official campaign, culminating exactly one month from today, on May 6th. Of course, campaigning is already well under way - leaders’ tours and TV debates have already started, as has the flurry of polling.  

In terms of Scotland, the four party politics makes it a very different campaign north of the Border. The polling does not predict a significant number of seats changing hands. The Labour party are likely to retain their strong position in Scotland ahead of all the others, even in the face of a significant national swing to the Conservatives in the rest of the UK, and the SNP Government at Holyrood.
